Vinorelbine is an Anti-mitotic chemotherapy drug that is given as a treatment for some types of cancer, including Breast cancer and Non-small cell lung cancer. The antitumor activity of Vinorelbine is due to inhibition of mitosis through interaction with microtubules. One of the roles of microtubules is to aid in the replication of cells. By disrupting this function, Vinorelbine inhibits cell replication, including the replication the cancer cells. Vinorelbine is the first SNOR Semi-synthetic vinca alkaloid. It is obtained by semi-synthesis from alkaloids extracted from the Rosy periwinkle, Catharanthus roseus.
